Safe to do - screen over the LCD screen?

Hi guys the LCD Tv screen is just way too bright for me when Im using the PC - so ive put the anti-glare protective screen (it has some wire coming out of the end) from my old CRT tube monitor over the LCD screen.
Is that safe to do in terms of putting it over an LCD screen?

good question - BUT - when I turn the brightness down - alot of pictures become too dark to make heads or tails of, so I have to keep it a standard brightness and because the light in my room is not near the desk - its just too bright.
So I thought this would be the next best option...

not quite understanding the problem, the anti glare screen will stop glare from other light sources reflecting off the tv surface, if you are just trying to stop the output from the tv being bright, then that should be achievable with the contrast or brightness controls. There is no harm in using the anti glare screen.

But have you adjusted the contrast. To be honest, I prefer a "less bright" display, but find that adjusting the contrast is a better option and gets the desired result.

  • I have family in Malaysia, and they used to have these screens with the little wire on, T.V's monitors anything, my Brother-in-law still has one on his monitor, I saw them as nothing more than a fad, with someone making a few quid out of junk and ignorance, but if you feel one useful your not alone, anti-glare screens seem very common and a version of this is built in to many lcd screens, just the little bit of wire and claims of anti-radiation and the like may be a little far fetched, but I don't know the facts, I wouldn't use one.

If your LCD screen is too bright, an anti-glare protective screen will not help. You'll end up straining your eyes I expect (although I'm no eye expert!), as they were designed for CRT monitors.

You will be able to get a less bright screen by adjusting the brightness and contrast settings on the LCD. A more technical explanation that may help you get these settings correct can be found at http://www.poynton.com/notes/brightness_and_contrast/
