Gas and Electricity in new home...

Hello,
any help thankfully appreciated...
I am moving at the end of the week to a new house. We are having to estimate our new bills (obviously!) but I dont really know how to go about changing our suppliers! Do we contact our new suppliers in advance? I want to go through switching or cashback sites - is it best to do this on the day (Friday!) or now?
Any advice would be gratefully received... thanks xxx

Hi
I would wait a few weeks or a month or so after the new house and then switch.
The current electricity and gas supplier will continue to supply the house or at least they did for me and just write to you as "the occupier".
You then tell them who you are and your bank details. Give them the meter reading you take on possession of the property.
It may not be a good tarrif at 1st but at least you will be in, have correct meter readings and the serial number of the meters and can then switch about once you are settled in the new home and Martins indicator changes to "Green"
Hope this helps a littleI beep for Robins - Beep Beep

Yes, Ben is correct.
Once you move in read the meters. Phone up the suppliers and advise you have moved in, and give them the reads you took, they will try to get you on a Dual Fuel contract, but if you are switching suppliers it will not really be a good idea. A Change of Supply can take 6-8 weeks, and they don`t always go over at the same time.
Also there could be a different supplier for both supplies so you would have to do both.
Good Luck
