George Wimpey terrible options.

Has anyone bought a Wimpey house lately, especially in the North East.
We have picked a house off them and been today to see about our choices for kitchen and tiles etc. Problem is the worktop choices were no good. We liked the one in the showhouse but apparantly are now discontinued and the remaining choices do not go with the cabinets we like. The same goes for tiles that we liked for kitchen and bathroom. They say we cannot get similar stuff that we like that is on offer at a nearby site cos they do not like to do that. This is ridiculous surely. It is putting us off the sale cos we are going to have to get stuff and pull it out again. Has anyone got similar experiences and resolutions?

  • Aren't they Taylor Wimpey now? Merged last summer.

Not sure if they still offer a discount if you hold their shares. Might be worthwhile finding out.
  • Then offer them the sking price less £3-5000 to cover for your choice of tiles & worktops.

Houses are struggling at mo so you have a good chance of getting the reduction
  • We have reserved and exchanged conditional contracts. The house will not be ready until the summer and our mortgage offer was for 3 months and runs out next month. We got a 5% reduction and stamp duty paid. I did not expect to get this hassle with the fittingd though

I think if I owned shares I would have sold them before now going off their performance.

DISCLAIMER USALLY SHOWN ON THE WALLS OF SHOW HOMES AND SALES CENTERS,Written onto Bottom of PLANS etc

Always read the small print on all plans etc disclaimers, sometimes the tiles do go out of production depends on how long the show homes have been up plus is this a true GW site or Laings? they were taken over and their spec is so much higher the sales exc might be right 100% right the tiles are no longer available

Disclaimer notwithstanding - what is a show-home if not an advertisement?

Why are they doing a showhome saying "look!.. this is what you can have for your money!.. only to later say.. "oh, sorry, dont do that standard of finish anymore!"

Oh well, I suppose if people are gullible enough to buy a new build, there isnt much hope from the start!

If the kitchen hasn't been completed yet have you considered buying the worktop you want and asking the chippy to put it in for you while they are finishing the kitchen? Surely that will be the cheapest option.....?
If you do what you've always done, you'll get what you've always got.

  • Well both has happened to me........I didnt like any choices in the show home to my house but said i would go to one of there other developments which i did..I picked something and they installed it....ON another new build i own , the tiles had been discontinued ,,so the builders told me to go to Porcelenosa to chose what i wanted ,,which i did,,and they have them at this moment got them ready to fit...
