hi folks, I have just recently installed a fresh copy of Office 2000 onto a clean laptop. Every time i start up Word/Excel, I get this error message (in thread title). It is installed onto a standalone laptop. Prior to (re)installation, Office would start up immediately. Don't get me wrong, Office works fine, it's just that it can be annoying. Any ideas on how to solve this 'problem'. I have run through the MS article below, but it made no difference whatsoever (I did not bother with Method 3: Reinstall Microsoft Access as I did not think it would make any difference
) Thanks all for your help

Confusingly, the message does not appear when starting Access or PowerPoint; only Word and Excel....

I had a similar problem with Word at work. As far as I remember I was using an icon from the start menu from a different installation. Try starting them from the office folder. This worked in my case and I deleted the old shortcut and replaced it. If that doesn't work I'd suggest re-installing.0

stab in the dark, but try unticking the ccleaner "windows log files" option
if that doesn't work

This microsoft article mentions this at the bottom:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/244170
but it might not help. However I would check the registry that the current version is set to Word and Excel 2000, if you can find the entry.0 -
Thanks albertross: I'll try that and report back as soon as

ccleaner untick made no difference. I think I'm fast running out of options. I suppose I could just re-install; I'm just not sure it will make any difference
As an aside, I do NOT have service pack 2 for xp installed - would there be any correlation??? Thanks all

Hi free
Have you tried running the Program Compatibility Wizard? it might pick up a problem that you cant see otherwise. I have never had a problem running Word 2000 with xp but I have had to use the wizard to sort a couple of other programs that I imported from W98.0 -
Doubt sp2 will fix it, but you need that on there anyway, if it is on the net. (sharpish if you have no router, and the firewall isn't on)

The ccleaner thing can delete the log file, which causes a similar symptom, if you wade through the google results, you should find the answerEver get the feeling you are wasting your time? :rolleyes:0
