pension when retired through ill health

Options
hiya
just a quick question on the above.if you are retired from your work because of illness i believe your pension starts rather than going onto any benefits( IB or the one that takes over from it.)

is there any way you can work out how much you would get per month/year as i dont think it will be the same amount as if you were at retiring age asking for someone in their 40`s.

the person does not wont to contact personel at work as they havent started to illness progress but they have an incurable illness which means this is a possibility for the future

thanks in advance

Does this person have a work related pension ? In which case they have to apply for Ill-Health Retirement with the HR dept... if not they should be able to claim IB if they have to leave because of illness..

yes they have a work related pension but they do not want to go through HR as it doesnt look that good asking about what she would be entitled to as she isnt even off sick at the moment and then if she had to go off sick shortly after asking if you see what i mean

  • I think only the Works Pension Dept could answer this as they are the providers of the Pension.

You can claim IB as well. It will be reduced by 50p in the £1 for every £1 of your pension over £85. Otherwise it is not means-tested.

All occupational pensions have their own terms and conditions. They should have been given the details when they first started the pension. If they've mislaid it then they should just ask for a copy. Their employers don't need to know why they want it. After all the employer is contributing so has every right to know what they'll get out of it.

Alternatively can't they go direct to the pension company?
