Key snapped in lock - What to do?

Phirefly
We're replacing our handles on the french doors, but the key's been jammed in the old handle and we stupidly twisted it and it snapped off, leaving the door still locked. Mr Phirefly removed the handle, but now we've reached an impasse and not quite sure what to do next. Before we remortgage and call out a locksmith, any suggestions? Thanks

Any advice that you receive from me is worth exactly what you paid for it. Not a penny more or a penny less.0 -

Thanks for the suggestion. I just tried that and I can't get a purchase.
The key seems to be aligned to the keyhole, i.e. I can see its cross section where its snapped.
Just thought, if I get the key out, how would we then open the lock without a spare? Should we start thinking about taking the doors off the hinges?
Here's the doors, if that helps...0 -
if you can access the hinges then you could drive the pins out and remove the doors.
alternative is to slice thro the actual lock with a hacksaw blade? (thro the gap between the doors).Get some gorm.0 -
If its going to warrant it if you have AD on your Insurance you could attempt to claim from your Household Insurance0

Release the locking bolts Top & Bottom, the door should push open.
You can then unscrew the lock and replace with new.0
