hi! guys,
need help urgently ! no heating or hot water for 3 days now.
Had to call out national grid cos the smell of gas in the house, they turned off the gas supply fixed everything ( I now have 3 big holes in the drive) gas turned back on but they could not relite my boiler. the boiler was working perfectly before, hadn't been turned off for a few years.
1) do I need to turn on heating/hot water and then start ignition?
2) the engineer from NG only held on to button for about 2 minutes before letting go. Do I need to hold on to it longer?
3) how much approximately will this job cost if I called out an engineer.
Thanks !

Does it have a pilot light, or is it electronic ignition? If it has a pilot light, and this comes on only to go out when you release the button on the gas valve, sounds like your thermo-couple is faulty.0

It's an old boiler, about 20yrs. I went to have a go at lighting it, I can see a spark but no flame... any ideas??0
