  • you opened a student account yet? they always have loads of freebies - lloyds give you £75, NUS card, phone insurance and a lot of other good freebies.

  • How to Succeed as a Student was written for students in Australia but covers useful things like how to study and learn; preparing and writing essays; and preparing for and sitting exams.

    An Introduction to Economics was primarily written for A-level students, but it might help anyone taking economics in their first year, particularly if they have not studied it before. There are other free economics articles there too. Feel free to download and print up what you want.

    Also you might try Freecycle where local people give away things they do not want. You can post asking for things you need too. You have to register, but that too is free.
