HB, CT, JSA benefit advice please

Options
Hi,
We might have the chance of relocating to another part of the country. If we were to move we would have to claim Income based JSA as it's too far away to be able to attend interviews etc before hand. Would we be entitled to claim Income Based JSA as we had moved into the area without jobs?
Also, would we be entitled to claim HB and CT as we would not be working (just until we got on our feet).
It's a Housing Association place we would move to and we have 2 young children. I just wondered if we might be refused benefits as we had relocated of our own choosing etc.
Thanks for your time & help
xx

I am not absolutely sure about JSA but someone else will no doubt advise. HB and CTB are incomed based so you would be entitled to these (assuming no other income etc)

If you are currently working and give up your jobs to move away, you will be seen as voluntarily giving up work and making yourselves unemployed. You will probably have your JSA sanctioned.

Agree with hapless. Unless you had a particularly urgent reason to move, you would be expected to find work prior to moving.

When you post, it is always worth checking replies afterwards. Someone answered this question for you in August.
    Gone ... or have I?
  • Thanks for the replies. I'm off to hang my head in shame now as I forgot what question I asked here 5 months ago.

Perhaps you could contact your local job centre plus and ask them?

I guess it depends on your reason for moving. I'm assuming you aren't in immediate risk, or anything like that, if you have been thinking about this since August.

I suppose it depends what they term as a good enough reason.

Could your oh take a week off work and use it for job hunting/interviews? If he could just get anything for now, to get you through the move and first month or two.
