Benefits in addition to SSP

Hi,
My brother will be off sick for at least three months. He will receive SSP and around £70 a week from his employers benefit scheme giving a total of around £140 per week.
He lives on his own and has no savings or private insurance/sickness cover. Does anyone know if he claim any other state benefits to help with the mortgage and council tax? Can he get help with the cost of perscriptions, eye tests and dental check-ups?
Many thanks for your help

I think the only thing he may be entitled is Council Tax Benefit, based on having a low income (this is a means-tested benefit). I don't think he will be entitled to anything else.
Maybe he could ask his mortgage provider for a payment holiday? (but bear in mind that this rolls up interest).
If he is still off sick when his SSP runs out, if he has paid enough National Insurance, he may be entitled to Incpacity Benefit, which is not means-tested.
Hope he is better soon.(AKA HRH_MUngo)

Imagine someone holding forth on biology whose only knowledge of the subject is the Book of British Birds, and you have a rough idea of what it feels like to read Richard Dawkins on theology: Terry Eagleton0 -
Thanks,
I'll try both. He's not in arrears with his mortgage, but is behind on a payment arrangement with his council. Dangerious territory I know! But maybe given the circumstances I can come to some new agreement with them.
Thanks again
