DVD rental by post?

Options
I am thinking of getting a DVD rental by post. I see them advertised everywhere like 'lovefilm' etc. But is it worth it?

Sky box office is £3.99 a movie (rip off)
Local rental is £3 a go....

Has anyone any experience in renting movies by mail ?

  • Hi,
I've been with Lovefilm a couple of months and in terms of speed of delivery they are very good. The despatch depot in the UK is in Peterborough and I'm only a couple of hours away in Ipswich so the turnaround for me is usually post today-there tomorrow-new disc arrive day after. Customer service is OK although the email response is offshore (not sure about phone) so there is sometimes a language barrier. I recently sent a message advising them on a technical issue and their response suggested that they had no idea what I was talking about. Don't know what they are like when you try to cancel your subscription.

Excellent selection of discs, including High Def. ones, and if you receive a faulty disc then the replacement will be in addition to your normal allowance.

All in all OK so far, and definitely a lot cheaper than going to Blockbuster.
    Hope this helps.

I joined LOveFilm for their freebie offer and then didn't renew and they keep sending me vouchers for £20 to use. The only problem I found was that you have to schedule in time to watch the films (difficult for me as Ihave a very busy life!)

i use it but tbh will most likely cancel as i struggle for time ot watch dvd's
    no problems with lovefilm though
  • I am on a trial with Lovefilm at the moment, and although the speed of service is generally good, they rarely send popular titles - I have a long list of "High priority" titles, and some "medium" and "low" priority, and all I ever seem to get is low or medium priority titles. I've had Shrek 3 at the top of my list since before xmas, and they still haven't sent it despite having about 15 discs since then!

Had no problems with lovefilm, quick turn around and - so far - no faulty DVDs.

Tried Amazon previously, their DVDs often "stick" (need cleaning, a nuisance in middle of the film) and turn around is slower.

Like other posters I often don't get the time to watch, but at least no late fees. :D

Had no problems with cancelling subscriptions - after "tarting" period, came back to them eventually.

Does this mean that you don't get the films you want? Or you have a list and they send you whatever from the list?

I use Tesco and have never had any problems! Sometimes I hold on to them for a week sometimes I get through three a week (one disc at home at any one time). Its enough for me and fits in with my spare evenings. Cheaper if you pay for a few months upfront than month at a time.

there is currently a code on the net(try hotukdeals) which allow you 3 months free trial of lovefilm. then after its finished and you have cancelled(make sure you cacel at least a week before the end) you can put the code in again and get another 3 months free! myself and boyfriend have both done this at the same time and we get two discs each at a time, no problems so far.
November £10 a day challenge. Im starting early- 66p so far!
