help, i have a HP pavilion t370.uk desktop pc, the power on button had become sticky over the past week, today it turned on fine, then switched, now wont stay switched on.... the problem is the power on/off switch. I need to locate a replacement as i tried to take it apart and glue the broken bits together, but it didnt work.....
can anyone suggest/recommend a website wher ei find a replacement part?
other wise i will need to obtain a replacement casing

Is it a toggle on/off switch associated with the power supply? - then you must be very careful - it could be at mains voltages.
Or is it just a press button that simply makes a low voltage connection on thin wires to the main motherboard?
(If it is this it would normally close down by itself when you closed windows)
As long as the faulty switch is not a mains switch you can locate the two thin wires and use a bell push as a cheap fix. You'll have to extend the leads. Don't do this if you're uncertain.0 -
IF it is the small switch NOT MAINS then swop it for the reset switch. The small wires go to the motherboard and marked PWR (or ATX power switch)remove it and fit the small lead marked RST (reset) in its place. You can for now use the reset to turn it on/off.
Sounds like you have glued the broken switch in the "on" position so after 5secs. the unit powers off.
Remove power plug from wall outlet first.
Try maplins, radio spares, Farnell, and skips for old switch......sure you can get a free one somewhere.0 -
if it is a small approx 1cm button with a circular black dot, like used on Dells, then they are also found in some mice.GOOGLE it before you ask, you'll often save yourself a lot of time.

a maplin "push to make" switch will do the job. about 50p to 2 quid. various types to suit.Get some gorm.0

no its not the chunky main power on/off switch, but the small one at the front of the pc.
i will try the bell push type option, but wouldnt the button still have to remain push in for the pc to stay powered on.....?smile --- it makes people wonder what you are up to....

no you dont require a normal switch type button. just a bell press type button.
the PSU is a switched power supply and the circuits, takes care of the controls.Get some gorm.0 -

not quite the same as the one i have, which is part of a 3 sets of paris of wires all leading into a single block that connects to the motherboard.....smile --- it makes people wonder what you are up to....

well it aint pretty, but i have removed the duff switch and fitted an ugly looking toggle switch........ it works........ as long as i remember to switch to the left and then back to the right.... otherwise it powers up and then down within seconds.......smile --- it makes people wonder what you are up to....
