If you want any depth of colour to natural wood you could try using Bri wax.....they do various shades as do Liberon.
We;ve got old pine in our house and we've used it - put it on with a paintbrush, leave it to dry, buff up with a show brush and then with a cloth.Mary

I am sure you can use it on untreated wood - I've used Lord Sheraton Beeswax Balsam on sanded pine (recommend ventilating room when you use it)
Can the following prices be correct??? One's £1.99 and one's £14.95 - both 75ml - am I seeing things?

Can you use beeswax on doors that aren't painted? I am tempted to get some plain solid doors from B&Q and prefer not to paint them.
You can make life easy by melting the beeswax gently, and then adding about 4 to 5 times the volume of good quality (NOT cheap stuff) raw linseed oil. You need to warm the oil too. Once the mix cools, it is easy to apply. There's no need for adding a solvent, that way you don't have to put up with the smell.
For fresh wood, give it a couple of brush coats of raw linseed oil over a couple of days, wiping the excess away in about 30 mins.
This treatment works outside too, though in that case tung oil (pure!!!) gives better protection.0
