To be honest I agree with whats been said so far. So long as the bank uses SSL (the address begins with https://, and the padlock appears in ie, and the certificate is valid where Ie7 shows a green address bar) then it doesn't matter if your wireless in encrypted (note the internet itself isn't encrypted). The SSL will provide the safe encryption needed for banking whether wired or wireless.
what if everything is showing but the padlock. for some reasn my has disapeared but everything else is there https and pop up saying u are entering a secure site

Id be more worried about PHISHING and REDIRECTS

I use FIREFOX with the NOSCRIPT plugin to stop that

I'm not so worry about this. Horses for courses though!

Are you talking about your own WiFi at home or a public hotspot.

From home with WPA encryption you are pretty safe. Using a public hotspot you are vulnerable. I would never use public WiFi for banking. If you need this option regularly consider getting a PAYG 3G dongle.

There is quite a lot of old cobblers and paranoia about pc security.

I recall the episode of The Real Hustle.

What the guy actually did was to use his laptop to set up a fake wireless access point in a public place.

This hooked in users who wanted to use the fake free wireless access point, thinking it was being provided as a complementary service by the hotel.

Once the user had logged onto the fake AP,his details and traffic were captured .
I think the fake AP served out a payment card capture screen ISTR.

That is light years away from hacking into someones bank account !!

99% of the time it will be fine, but as I have a tinhat my online banking is only done on a wired connection, using a non windows operating system and not with a common browser :)
