Hi guys

Is there a program for Vista to see if fans are on? and how fast they are going?

Just that my laptop seems to be getting kinda hot but it sounds like the fan(s) are on

Cheers

Your motherboard has to have sensors that support such software for it to work?

My Dell Vostro 1700 fan is on more often than not; Vista is very greedy on cpu resources

    Speedfan should do the trick.

  • I wouldn't say vista is hungry on cpu, it does chew up as much ram as it can that's true, on my Vista side bar I have a monitor thingy, on idle it just bobs between 0% and 4%, if I wiggle this page around the desktop it goes to about 16% on each core, Ram is showed as 56%, that's 1148 of 2046mb

just foundwhat the problem was though, the fan had thick dust, etc all gunked up on the inside of the heatsink holes, i unscrewed the fan and cleared that out now seems to have sorted out the problem entirely :)

Many thanks for all ur help though

Yeah i have Vista Premium and 2GB of Ram as well, and generally mine only sits at 56% of Ram when i have multiple tabs open as well as Outlook 2007 and Windows Mail as well :)

Although i wouldnt like to run Vista on less than 2GB as i could see it running the machine at a slow rate :)
