When we had this problem (we had bought a repossessed house) we just phoned up the companies involved and told them. This did the trick and they stopped chasing the debts (the words we bought the house from the [bank name] who had taken possession so have no forwarding address worked wonders). However, one company was very stupid and kept chasing different debts to the same address!
Finally, it is not illegal to open mail addressed to someone else if it is posted through your door. It is illegal to open mail for fraudulent purposes (ie identity theft, stealing a credit card etc)

that the letters have been sent to a Mr J Major and a Mr Tim Tin-Ton! I will call the companies involved and say that these people do not live here. I also understand that if i ask them not to send stuff to my address and they do they are breaking the law in some way,is this correct?end the tv tax0
