Amex membership fee

I am self employed running my own small business. I've held an Amex business Charge Card for about a year, the fee was waved for the first year as a hook, this months statement arrived and they had added £95 membership fee. I phoned them to cancel the card and told them i could not justify paying the fee, " No problem said the customer service person, I can wave the fee and as a goodwill jesture increase membership rewards to one and half for each £1 spent". :j

  • Amex Charge Card had charged annual fees for decades. No point moaning. It is quite clear on their website/ application pack that there is an annual fee for membership. If you do not want to/or justify paying a fee, then dont have one.

What will you do next year, and the year after, when the membership comes up for renewal?

I personally would not pay a fee to have a charge card.

Don't think the OP was moaning about it.

Aren't there two versions, one with and one without? If that is the case, they might have downgraded you

With increased membership rewards, sounds like an upgrade to me.

Indeed. I've never understood the allure of Amex. It's accepted next to nowhere, it costs money merely to possess it, and it's got the word "American" in it!

Stonk, I think you missed the point as other moneysavers pointed out! It really doesn't bother me whether I have an amex card or not, although it can be useful when running a business as it has no limit. If they try to charge a fee next year I will simply canx it.
