unzipped files help,aol

I have been emailed a file and the instructions from the person says to unzip the file, does aol have unzip software built in that does this for you?I am not sure if its zipped or unzipped, how can one tell.

The person who emailed it to me said i had to right click in the instructions and extract, but when i right click there is not an option saying extract?

He then sents me another email and says this is a file that neem unzipped, but when i look at it and the first one i downloaded they look the same, say the same thing and also has the same kb in size.

So would i be right in saying that when i downloaded aol unzipped the file?i did not want to download the unzipped file he sent me second time as it says if i open it,it could damage my computer, files etc.

Both the files have a white background and a little symbol in the middle with little folder type pics within that.
I have no idea of zip and unziped files and i need to make sure the file i have and the file i use is right as its for a hack to a dvd machine i have.

Have you got a yahoo or hotmail account ? If you have either ,just forward it to either one and try to open from there .
I am on Aol but dont use their software and never bother with any emails that go there.

    Hi
If the file is zipped it will have .zip at the end of its name.
    Such as filename.zip.
If it doesn't end in .zip then it's not a zip file.

So, check what are the names of the two files which you have been sent.

How well do you know the person that sent you this file? Do you trust them?

The reason I ask is that it ~sounds~ as though the second one they sent you is an executable program file. If you open it (i.e. double-click on it), it can do anything to your system, whether you want it to or not.

You should download the fiule to your local machine 1st and thn run a virus check on the file before doing anything else with it regradless of the supplier (trusted or not)

Then Search for TUGZIP on google and download this as it will unzip / unarchive most file types.

  • 7-Zip is a good, free file compression utility that handles most compressed file formats.
