Equifax / Experian

Options
In my valiant attempt to clear my debts, I ordered credit check prints from both of these firms. What they showed was a bit frightening !

Both showed an open CCJ for £862 from 5 years ago. To the best of my knowledge, this was paid in full almost immediately. I need to contact the court for details now.

Equifax showed a bill of £4862 due to Barclaycard. This was paid 3 years ago via Thames credit collection agency, as shown on the Experian report.

Equifax also showed an outstanding debt of £5600 to Barclays Masterloan TWICE! Once due to Cabot and once due to Masterloan.

Makes you wonder how many other people are blissfully unaware of inaccurate information held against them. My credit is crap anyway, but an open CCJ plus over £10,000 of extra debt that doesn't exist doesn't exactly help.

Well, from my experience a resounding yes. Bear in mind of course that I had a lot of debts and these had been passed over to collection companies, which added to the confusion. If you have, unlike me, run your financial affairs efficiently, you probably wouldn't have these problems.

I sent cheques to both of these in the past to get info, both of the cheques were cashed but only Experian replied. I know of others also who have sent cheques to Equifax and they haven't been bothered to relpy. Just a warning.

i will be paying by debit card if that makes any difference?

Not sure if paying by dc makes one jot, I just sent the cheque off. Never got money back from Equifax and no report came through. I know of several folk who have had this happen to them and I have also read in other chat formus of same thing, Equifax doesn't bother to reply but takes the money! I am not sure what the difference is between them, don't they carry the same info on the report? If this is so i would recommend you go with Experian first.
    Best of luck.

Here is a bit of info that not a lot of people are aware of............

credit reference agencies only show the last 6 years of your financial activities, after this, time they will not show on your report, whether ongoing or cleared.

Using equifax, you can get your report staright away online, but its nearly 4 quid i think.
experian, you can sign up to the free 30 day alert which will give you your report.
    the two are very different.
My equifax was almost 100% clean, whereas my experian was rated "very poor".
looking at the reports, many lenders seem to use experian rather than equifax.

I'm confused. They obviously compile their information from the same sources, but if I leave a note for lenders explaining part of the credit record, will that only be visible on reports from the company I submit it to?

Yes, Experian, Equifax AND Callcredit are competing against each other they are not connected. A notice of correction on one will not show on all three.

Remember there are 3 CRA's in the UK not 2!....and thats not to even mention Hunter!
