mbna car ins. is this legal????

Options
hi, my wife's insurance documents have just arrived. the policy auto-renews at end of every 12 months. a 14 day cancellation period exists but with this caveat: 'no refund of premium will be given in respect of Uinsured Loss Recovery' - which in this case is £22.05.

my OH has decided not to renew this policy, having left things a little late (she rec'd the renewal notice 2 weeks ago).

my question is this: given that the 14 'cooling off' period exists, is mbna legally entitled to withold the £22.05???

I sure would like to know. £22.05 is hardly the end of the world but I feel mbna is playing fast and loose with renewals.

I'd be more than grateful for any advice/info.

many thanks,

miladdo.

Has your other half had an accident? I don't understand why it says uninsured losses as this is usually the result of an incident?

If she has who's fault was it and has it been settled?

Could be worth telling them that you have paid for uninsured loss insurance with them for the year and expect them to honour it if you have a claim....

I suspect it's legal. Most things are.

Uninsured loss recovery, relates to if you had an accident and the other party was not insured you would still get a payout,it is an extra premium levied by nearly all insurers now,it doesnt mean that you have had a shunt

I don't think that they actually do this. Their policy booklet online certainly does not imply that they will not refund if cancellation of the uninsured loss recovery premium is made within the 14 day cooling off period.

Are you sure you are not misreading the wording? As I suspect that the portion you quote is in relation to cancelling after the cooling off period, when they certainly won't refund.

no accidents luckily. my post was purely concerned with the upfront payment

  • now I thought that any claim against an uninsured motorist used to be covered by an organisation especially created by the UK's insurers. I say 'used to' because I haven't heard anything about them for a few years - in fact, their existence was usually kept quiet from motorists so - allegedly - calims were kept to a min.

sorry for the time lapse in replying, btw.
