help ..have i been ripped off ?

last week i contacted royal scottish assurance to say i wanted to surrender the £34,ooo invested last august ( it was in a 5 year guaranteed capital bond ...advice taken from bank ) as i realised i would be better off paying off my mortgage..they told me the surrender value was £33,889 the cheque arrived today for only £32,045.. have i been ripped off is it worth contacting them before i go to my mortgage lender with cheque ??advice would be much appreciated

    You may have heard on the news that the stockmarkets went down last week. Therefore your value you goes down as well.

    Guarantees only apply at maturity and not mid term.

    i realised that but was astonished to see in 5 days the value had gone down by a further £1800...O well i guess it could of been worse thanks for replying so promptly dunstonh
