would this be recovery?
if so it tells you to pres F8 after the POST(power on self test) has completed then it tells you options although now i have a different message when it restarts which is
BOOTMGR is missing

just had a thought, is it at all possible to copy vista from my laptop onto a dissk, to put onto his laptop? and if so can anyone give me directions please?

return it to them as faulty, sounds like there are problems with the hard disk

just spoke to him and he wants to keep it and get a vista disk, a he waited long enough for this laptop to come, would i be "allowed" to borrow a vista diski can find anyone with one and put it on to see if it will work, ive just had a shouting at cos its not fixed

Id return it to be honest, could you OH not order it from another site if it were cheaper

Agree for sure, return it for a refund and start again. Don't allow a repair you've lost your rights once you do that. Just because its a computer you should still expect it to work! Good luck.
