Help! I USED to be in Love with my Panasonic BM

Hi All you OS'ers.Hope someone can help with my problem. After a lot of research here last year I decided to buy a Panasonic BM with a nut dispencer. Fantastic! All the bread is great, the kids love it and we never have any left over bread anymore......but...........For the last couple of months it has been very hit and miss. My OH puts on a fast bake large loaf and waits for it to ding......takes out the loaf to find half the flour baked like concrete around the bottom on the loaf. But the next 3 times might be perfect. The troubleshoot in the booklet says...."Its not mixing properly"......lol..you dont say! Has anyone else had this problem? Should I take it back or phone Panasonic? Thanks in advance

Sorry, I don't have this problem, and my Panasonic is very well used! The only thing I can think of is maybe there is a build up of bread around the paddle which is stopping it from turning. When I tip my loaves out, I immediately add a small amount of cold water to the pan, and remove the paddle. Then, using a nylon brush, I remove any baked on bread around the spindle - the cold water helps here.
It might be worth investing a few minutes in watching the knead process to see whether the paddle is rotating properly - if not, and the spindle is clear, then it suggests that there is a fault somewhere else to me, anyway.
With loaves that sink in the middle, it might be worth checking that you are using the correct amount of water - sounds like a bit too much to me.
Hope that helps,
Best wishes,

I haven't had this trouble with my panny but did have it with my Morphy richards one...I phoned customer service and described the problem and they said the kneading blade/pan had worn out.I bought a new pan and it has worked fine ever since.:D0

Thanks for the replies so far.I wouldnt have expected to replace items on my BM after only a year.....seems a bit much to me really.OH says he cleans it really well after each go and has said that he can see the machine working.....so I dont think its that.I am baffled but think I probably need to phone Panasonic.0

Hi
What flour are you using, I do believe the type of flour you use has a massive effect on the quality of your bread.

If you use the timer you MUST keep the yeast dry when you load it.0 -
There's something in the book about dough release holes becoming blocked which prevents the paddle from turning. When that happens, there's a part you need to buy which solves the problem. It should mention this in your manual, although if it isn't, get back to me and I'll look in mine. (I've got the SD54 but it's the same manual if you've got the SD 55). I think the same is also true for the earlier models from what I remember when I was researching my purchase.0
