You can fly on ryanair to Tampere in Finland cheaply, whilst tampere itself is hardly a fantastic destination from there you can take a 6 hour or so train journey to a place called Rovaniemi. Rovaniemi is on the edge of the Arctic circle and just outside the town is the official Santa Claus centre complete with sleigh rides, Reindeer etc and you can visit the real father christmas.Cover me in honey and fling me to the hermaphrodites!0

As you are booking early you might get a free child place take a look at this site https://www.santatrips.co.uk. I feel you are wise to go for this amount of time, as I took my children on a day trip some years ago and had a disappointing time. Although we made the most of it for the sake of the children, the company we went with, did not provide us with all what they had advertised in there brochure. I went to lapland and hope one day to return for a longer trip, needless to say I will not be re booking with them. I have not named them as they may have got there act together now, but should you like to know who it is pm me.0

I agree with blue_haddock. Finnish Lapland is the real home of Santa, not Iceland...

HI,
Rovaniemi is geared up for Santa holidays, it's one of their major tourist things. But for the last two years snow has come late in Finland, and so you might not have guaranteed snow in Rovaniemi!! I was actually in southern Finland for the last two winters so not sure how much there was in December in Rovaniemi.
We visited Tromso in Norway in February and the locals said the snow was late there this year too, although there was lots at the time we visited. Can thoroughly recommend dog sledging there!!
So do double check for wherever you book what the snow is expected to be like, and ask what it's been like for the last couple of years at the time you plan to visit.
We've found Finland & Norway are both relatively expensive for food, drink, excursions etc., so it could be cheapest to get a package with as much as possible included.0
