Hi,
Does anyone know what sort of printer I would need if I wanted to do 'art' prints on non-standard sized paper or canvasses or posters?
I imagine a laser printer would be more reliable?
Any help would be greatly appreciated,
Cheers

A really good inkjet will offer better colour smoothness than a colour laser (I have both, but the HP inkjet produces more accurate colours if it's set-up correctly, but I love the look of the laser finish, and it's fast.) A dye-sublimation printer will offer even better colours, but at a higher price than an inkjet, they are more of a nice graphics product.
A laser is cheaper to run and more reliable if you are printing thousands of sheets, but it won't be able to print on odd shaped paper (A3 are expensive, A2 prohibitive), but none can print on canvas, you'll need a specialist inkjet for that.
HP make various inkjets and poster jets for non-standard paper rolls, poster size etc. have a look on their site www.hp.co.uk
Else Canon would be my next choice, although I'm not sure if they do anything larger than A3, they offer very good quality too.0 -
I'd go with Isofa's recommendation for a canon.
From A4 to poster size is quite a range, you never mentioned number of prints you will use it for. if it 90% use for A4 and for a very small run then go cheap. If you want loads, regular and often then a more expensive one. google AND ebay CIS (for cartridges) and buy your printer around the cartridge.
You may also want to try http://homokaasu.org/rasterbator/GOOGLE it before you ask, you'll often save yourself a lot of time.0 -
Try the print shops on your local high street. They have large format inkjet printers, Kall Kwik and Prontaprint they can do A0 and poster size and print to a roll so any length you want.0

If youre after an A4 colour laser the Canon LBP 5000 is a good bet. its about £140ish depends where you get it from

also you can apply for a free set of extra toner from canon.

this printer is the same as the HP 2600 laserjet series.0 -
