Easyjet service failure

Easyjet offer SPEEDY BOARDING for an extra cost as do Ryanair.
It is worthless at best and at worst Fraudulant. I have complained about this and received no more than"Our standard terms etc., Tough luck." The latest example is as follows; I check in to Belfast Int. in plenty of time, sit in the departure lounge and the screen shows flight departures info. with my flight to Bristol reporting "Relax and Shop" i.e. not yet boarding. After a short time it tells me to go to gate 21 - boarding but no tannoy message. By the time I walk to gate 21, the stampede is already boarding. I walked to the front of the queue and asked who was looking after SPEEDY BOARDERS only to be told by Easyjet staff "They had already called Speedy Boarders", This call is only at the gate i.e. too bad, you were not at the gate like the stampede and therefore need to go to the end of the queue.
This is not the first incident like this. It has happened in Bristol. When I have asked Easyjet to refund the Speedy boarding part of my next 20 flights, Same old same old, stadard terms etc.
It seems to me that if you pay someone for an extra service and they are capable of delivering it, failing to be willing to deliver it as a matter company policy would make their offer as per the web site fraudulant. The website does not say If You Buy This Service, You Still Need To Be At The Front Of The Stampede.

In fairness, it's not just Easyjet; we flew somewhere with Virgin Atlantic and upgraded to Premium Economy Class which, so say, gets you "priority boarding and unboarding".

Alas, when they announce at the gate "would rows A-E please begin boarding" you'll find all the chavs, who aren't in rows A-E but seem incapable of following a simple set of instructions, just pile on anyway and even though the staff try and stop them, they usually get abuse.

The airlines are certainly guilty to an extent but the great British public are equally culpable.

Any advice that you receive from me is worth exactly what you paid for it. Not a penny more or a penny less.
  • I use speedy boarding all the time on easyjet and others, I find it pretty good, but its on the basis that as soon as the gate is ready you have to whizz down to the gate. as often they will open the gate and start boarding at the same time In places like luton where they have lanes, its pretty fare, first in the laned queues first on board. At other sites such as Madrid, you have to stand around by the gate with staff telling you to sit down
As soon as you sit down as requested, and pne of the staff even looks like they are about to call for boarding every stands up and a big scrum occurs.

Worst place I have seen for PB is Bilbao. Before you can get to the gate down some stars, you have to go through passport control, which is upstairs and linked to that gate only not at security. The police only tend to to open this once boarding starts. So unless you are psychic and queue for 2 hours before passport control/gate opens you have no hope of getting to board first.

Being 6ft 5 it really is not fun being stuck in the middle row. I would be glad to pay 9even more than current PB if I could select the emergency/front row seat of my choice before boarding

I'm still really confused as to what the advantage of boarding a plane early is when you have pre-assigned seats. You'll never struggle to find space in overhead compartments, so why not just chill out in the comfy seats whilst everyone else is queuing back down the airbridge tunnel?

Totally agree - if we have prebooked seats we are one of the last to board we normally don't have a problem with overhead locker space - at least not since the "one carry on bag" came in.

Surely you would know that if you have priority boarding you need to be at the gate early? After all, if you're just sitting in the departure lounge, why not sit in the seating at the gate?

I use Speedy Boarding with Easyyet, and Priority Boarding with Ryanair, and I've never had a problem. TBH I think that all that is lacking here is common sense ...
    Gone ... or have I?
  • What Bigpapa wants is to dawdle up to the gate when he feels like, walk straight to the front and board straight away.
This is not what Speedy boarding is all about. The service works as long as you co-opperate.
