Child Tax Credits? My husband isn't English but I am?

Iwonder of anyone can help me. I am trying to find out if my husband and I will be entitled to child tax credits. I am English and he is from New Zealand. We have applied for a spousal visa which we are still waiting for but assuming we get it, would we be able to claim? I've looked on the website but it seems to say we wouldn't get anything until he recieves settled status in the country, but that's not for another 2 years! It doesn't seem very fair that we'd miss out on the payments just because he's not British. I am after all...
Our baby is due in July but i'm really keen to sort out our finaces ASAP so I can budget for the new arrival.

Hello Jak,

To make a joint claim for Tax Credits aslong as you are a UK national and entitled to public funds then your partner will be treated the same. Regardless of what it says on their visa. When you get your application form it clearly sates that on the guidance notes. So dont worry.

As long as you are living as a couple you will need to claim Tax Credits as joint applicants.
You would be entitled to claim Tax Credits if you were on your own so it is not fair to penalise who you decide to have a relationship with so therefore you CAN claim together.
