HM Armed Forces Lapel Badge

I had second thoughts about applying for a badge, in recognition of forcible call up for National Service, but what the heck, it is free, and it must have cost the government heaps for something that will rest in a draw for evermore. So I thought it is free, so why not apply.
As I have no idea when I will be needing it, I would feel an absolute prat going to the local supermarket displaying it on my coat lapel, and have no intention of marching in commemorative displays, I just had an idea of putting it along side my Dad's medals which I keep in a cabinet, medals that he was deservedly awarded for service in the Royal Navy in WW11. He must have been offended, because the pin fell off the cheap badge when I tried to pin it along side his six proper and distinguished medals0
