Has anyone ever had a mortgage with Halifax and rented their main home out for 6 months....
I am pondering moving in with OH for 6 months to see if I prefer his neck of the woods but would want to tell my mortgage provider, wondering if they are ok with this?

You'll need to arrange a meeting with a Halifax mortgage reviewer in order to apply for consent to lease, your mortgage would be placed on a consent to lease mortgage product and there maybe products fees associated with it0
