Standard Life Pension Funds

Hi,
I have been in my employers Standard Life pension scheme for 8 years. It was set up with the following funds:
Pension Managed One Fund - 75%
Pension with Profits Fund
Pension Millennium with Profits Fund - 25%
I would like to know if it would be wothwhile changing any of these funds, (are they any good???). I have recently found that i have many others to choose from including external funds.
I am 30 years old now, have been in the scheme for 8 years and have a retirement goal of 55, (If its realsistic). I pay approx gross contributions of £400 / month and have always been opted out.
Thanks for any response,

If you had a competition to pick the three worst funds on the contract you would have won first prize i'm afraid.
Yes you can do better. A lot better. Standard Life group schemes dont tend to offer a great range (its not a bad number but they have a heavy overlap of funds in the same sectors) but you should find enough to suit you.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). Schroder Global Emerging Market Fund - 25%

You need to do research on all of the funds that are provided by Standard Life. Try googling each one and read up on them. I doubt anyone here will do that for you. Alternatively you could see an IFA and pay him/her to research the available funds and make a recommendation.Mortgage Free in 3 Years (Apr 2007 / Currently / Δ Difference)

Ok guys thanks for your comments.
After endless research i chose a mix of UK and European equities, and also a risky 25% chunk in Global emerging markets which gives exposure to BRIC. The charges are a little higher than i was paying Standard Life but hopefully it will be worth it.
I also bought an ISA with JPM Natural Resources to let run along side my pension funds.
I am now much more aware of how important it is to regulary review my investments.
Thanks again.0 -
The best way to invest for the longer term is to have a basket of investments covering a spectrum of different asset classes such as equities and Fixed Interest and Property and also this should be geographically diverse. Perhaps you might want to consider adding some Commercial Property (International property from New Star might be more preferential than a UK based property fund if available at the moment due to the revaluation of UK property funds of this nature) also having some corporate bond/gilt funds in there can help to reduce the overall risk within the portfolio.
By the way this does not constitue advice and is just my opinion.0 -
I have been helped on here before with ISA questions (and a question about a mates new pension), but now find myself in the same boat as those on this thread. I have a new employer pension scheme in the form of a Standard Life Group Personal Pension.
It appears as though I have two routes, Readymade v SelfSelect. I have taken a look at the readymade funds and none really take my fancy.
If I went selfselect I am prepared to spend the time and do the reasearch, in fact I do plenty of this on an ongoing basis for my new s&s ISA's. ( I think I have the use of a employer related IFA ), so am thinking I'll set up what I think, then see if they agree. I'll probably use the standard life 'opportunity' and 'balanced' asset class allocation suggestions to form my selections.
Reasonable Approach ?0
