Oh dear! No direct flights and the fares are at their peak in the summer. If you leave to later in Septmeber the fares may come down ut you need to decide how to get there. My advice would be to change in the UK rather than in the US, so that means flight to London and then onwards to Boston. As you say BA may be easiest as by then both the flight from Manchester and the onward flight will go from the same brand new Terminal 5 at Heathrow which should make changing planes easier than it is now.
For children under 2, you can take them on your knee and pay an infant fare of usually 10% but its a long way ans you might be better reserving a seat and taking an approved car seat for your child, however then you must a child fare which is usually 66% of the adult price.
I wouldn't take the option of flying direct to the US from Manchester to New York Chicago or Atlanta as changing at any of these airports is a nightmare. You could just pop into a local travel agent for this if you have never tried long haul flighst before, alternatively have a look at a website like https://www.airlinenetwork.co.uk0 -
ok thankyou for your help its a bit of a nightmare when u have never done it b4 ! i dont mind having to change if i have to if it makes it cheaper but jst worried about it with having the little one , I think ill be better of going into my travelagents on this one as i have no idea what im doing lol x0

I don't know the details but my son has just been to Boston. He went from Manchester via Amsterdam. He said that was the best way for him. Hope it helps.0

As Alan says best to change in UK or Europe as you need to clear immigration and customs at first landing in USA.
Choices appear to be:
BA via Heathrow
KLM via Amsterdam
Continental via New York
American Airlines via New york
Delta via New York
US Air via Philadelphia
Northwest(KLM codeshare) via Amsterdam
Air France via Paris
Air Lingus via Dublin
Direct Flights none from Manchester
BA Heathrow
American Airlines Heathrow
For a summary of deals have a look at https://www.cheapflights.co.uk0 -
I flew with American Airlines from Boston to Manchester and they were good, the flight is quite quick, we did it in about 5 hours with a good tailwind. Not sure if they do the reverse journey but worth checking

Don't use Delta, they are the worst airline I've ever flown with.0

I've got to say I'd suggest the opposite for exactly the same reason. When you first land in the USA you have to clear customs and immigration. There's always time to kill during any stopover, so you may as well use that time to clear customs. Then when you arrive in Boston you're arriving on a domestic flight, so you just pick up your luggage and walk out with no further hassle.
Regarding prices, if you get under 600 pounds in August you've done pretty well, though if you're lucky deals around 400 pounds have been had in the last couple years. It's really a case of booking when you're happy with the price, then not checking any more!0 -
hi thankyou for all your replys done some checking so far coming out at 1000 punds arghh too expensive :@( im not tied to aug could travel whenever is cheapist !0

There is a flight for £463/adult with Northwest airlines from Man via Ams leaving 28 Aug.
If you can make your own way to Heathrow there are flights direct from about £777 for the 3 of you with BA for first Tues in Sept0 -
