in Credit cards
Can't believe they can do this...
Had £12000 on a 0% balance transfer deal with MBNA. Paid the minimum
payment of £5 every month by standing order.
Last month, they changed the terms and conditions and changed the
minimum payment to £10. Yes, I know I should have checked my
statement...
Anyway, by accidentally not making the minimum payment, I got charged
£12 late payment fee, they removed my 0% balance transfer deal, and
charged me interest of nearly £200 !!!!!!
One simple mistake by me and it costs me £200+ !!!!!
Spoke to their customer services and they really couldnt care less.
Even though they understood what had happened they refuse to budge.
Opportunistic or what ???? The thing is I've had an MBNA credit card
for about 20 years and this is how they treat me.
I know a lot of you are going to say it was my fault for not checking
but, I do think its very opportunistic of MBNA to do this.

Christ, it just gets worse!
Is this in anyway reclaimable anybody?0 -
Could this not be seen as a "charge" for not paying on time??
Could any legal minded person be able to clarify this.
Cheers

Spoken to MBNA today regarding something else and found out because my payment was received 1 day late my 0% interest was cancelled. To make matters worse the customer service is rubbish to the point i'm considering making a complaint about the person i spoke to.
Again yes the payment was late but having had an account with them 15 years some common sense could be used.0 -
I took a 0% balance transfer out with MBNA and made sure I set up a direct debit with them, as I was told at the time, if I was ever late then I would loose the 0% interest deal.
If you ever take out a 0% deal ensure you set up a direct debit as this will ensure that the minimum payment is taken and payment will be made on time. Also if the change the minimum payment the new amount will always be taken by the direct debit.
I know this does not help the original poster, but a tip for anyone else who takes up any offers of a 0% or other low percentage deal.

Adrian2000, is correct. I am surprised if the minimum repayment for a £12000 limit is £5 (More like £360) and this should be taken into account when accepting large balance transfers.
Your direct debit should rather have been for the minimum repayment not the minimum payment, then I doubt you would have fallen foul of them.
Nevertheless, since you are in this situation, I feel for you.
Best of luck
Regards
Jen

Speaking to them on the phone, as I found out, is a complete waste of time !!!!0
