Are we being unreasonable

Our 6yr old daughter's bed broke just before Christmas so on Boxing Day we bought a shop soiled cabin bed from a nationwide furniture store for £500 including delivery & assembly.

The bed arrived on 4th Jan & straight after the delivery team left we found a large crack in one of the legs, which neither ourselves or the store staff had seen when we inspected the bed in store. We promtly phoned the store who promised they would order a new part for us & that they would deliver it to our home by the following Mon/Tues. When the part had not arrived by the Weds we phoned the store to be told that the part was coming from Denmark so would take 7 days to arrive. Again the leg did not arrive so another phone call to the store & this time we spoke to the manager who told us it would now be 10 working days before it arrived but that he promised he would get a rep from the company who make the bed to phone us the next day to confirm when the part would arrive. Surprise surprise the phone call was not forthcoming but the part did arrive today :T but guess what the part is the wrong part :mad: they have sent the bottom half of the leg instead of the top. We had asked 3 different members of staff including the manager to check that the correct part had been ordered & was reassured that it had.

We have now phoned the store again who have said they will fax another order for the correct part today but this means another 2 week wait.

During all this time our daughter has been sleeping on the mattress on the floor as the only time we allowed her to get in the bed we could visibly see the crack getting bigger & we feel the bed is too dangerous to sleep in.

Do you think we are within our rights to demand a full refund so we can purchase a new bed from somewhere else (we do not want them to order us a new bed as this will mean a 6-8 week wait). When we did make the suggestion to the store manager he only said that we should remember what a bargain we have got :mad: & that they were doing everything they could to rectify the situation.

We just want a cabin bed that is safe for our daughter to sleep in.

  • As far as I am aware yes. It isn't fit for purpose and you have done everything in your power to try and get it sorted. Paying £500 to look at a bed for a month is taking the p!!!

    could you not stick a couple of screws in it to hold it together until the new part arrives? It may seem a pain in the butt at the minute but in another week or two when the new part arrives you will probably be looking back and having a bit of a titter about it.

    If it doesn't arrive then youstill have your rights under SoGa
