Citibank balance transfer

Dear All,

I have recently decided to transfer the balance from my Barclaycard (£4600) to a Citibank card. I completed the application form online and was told I should expect a response through the mail. I waited a week or so then received a letter on 22/01 which only contained a pin number for my new Citibank card. I have since kept on checking my Barclaycard balance to see if the balance transfer had taken place. I checked on 25/01 and found that only £2700 of my balance had been paid off. I rang Citibank and explained all this and they stated that my credit limit with them had been set at £3000. This obviously does not cover my Barclays balance transfer. I explained to the advisor that this is no good for me because now I have two credit cards and will be paying interest on them both. I wanted to cancel but she said because the account has been set up I can't.
Where do I stand now? I know nothing about these financial matters but I did not receive anything from Citibank stating what my credit limit would be, prior to receiving my pin, otherwise I would have cancelled it before the balance transfer took place. I'm in a worse position now then when I started and it sounds like Citibank aren't interested.
Is there anyone out there who has any advice for me. Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks
Lucy

  • you've removed half your barclaycard balance.. tell them MBNA have given you a 0% deal.. but if they crystalise your remaining balance at 6.9% you'd be happy to stay where you are..

make sure you threaten to cancel and get put through the UK based customer loyalty instead of the 1st line indian centre
  • Hi speedbird1973, thanks for the reply but I have been with Barclaycard for a while now, it's Citibank who I have moved half my balance to. If I threaten Barclaycard with cancelling don't think it would wash really. Citibank currently has a whole of life APR of 6.9% I think.
  • i've been with barclaycard 14 yrs it worked for me
