    Fantastic going!

Have you checked out your life insurance? Is that just to cover the mortgage or is anything else included? Check to see if you can get it cheaper and maybe via quidco. It's just to cover the mortgage, but I've health issues that make it really expensive  . I will do a bit of digging though and see if I can get it any cheaper - or the same with a bit of cashback; more money to me is always good even if it's pennies a month :)

Is your travel your costing to get to/from work? Do your work offer a seasonal ticket loan? Some companies pay for a years travel and can deduct from your wages - can work out cheaper It is work travel, yes. I think they do a loan, although I'm not sure how hard it is to get. I'll do some investigation on how much a yearly ticket would be and if it's economic (I'm sure it will be!) how to go about the getting a loan. Good idea, I'd never even considered it!

Are you tied in with BT? as I pay £20 per month for line rental and broadband with talktalk - monthly bills are approx £26 including calls ... That's fantastic and a good idea, I do use a fair whack of bandwidth though, video conferencing family and things which is why it's so high. My contract's up in a couple of months, so I'll start looking around at what I can get from people now.

Thank you - they're all things I should be looking at and seeing if I can make some painfree cuts :D (those are the ones I like best...) in the near future! :money:

    You're doing really well :D

If you aren't tied into your broadband call Orange as you can get it free or very cheap if you're a contract customer.

I was paying £20 a month to BT (not including broadband) and no pay £15 a month to orange for landline and 8meg broadband, includes free evening and weekend calls and free anytime landline calls via the 'livebox' I've heard their service is a bit dodgy? I can definitely check it out though, I've a couple of months left to run with BT so that gives me plenty of time to research speed, reliability, usage and cost :D

Thank you, it's very helpful - I'd forgotten that orange do that!

  • I've been pretty much off the web for a couple of weeks  , but I'm still plodding along, and I should be able to pay an extra £200 at least to my CC bills this month, over and above the minimum :). Possibly as much as £250 - I'll need to see where I am in the direct debit scheme of things... :D .

I have, however been moving things along other than that.

I've come to my remortgage term, and I've been offered a really nice deal, locked rate for 3 years (I need that, just for the budgeting sanity, I think) with the availability for 2 "free" overpayments a year. Because of that, and because I don't stand a chance of a 0% card ever again (well... maybe in a few years, but not for the forseeable :D). I've asked for a little extra cash - enough to cover the possible expense of the building work if I don't get my insurance through (because, although my parents would lend me it, I'd really rather they didn't) and enought to clear my cc cards.

I've been looking at mini cash isas and regular savings accounts, and I'm going to put what I would have put to my debt into those (the savings fountain way :)) and then pay a lump sum to my mortgage after 6months a year and 18months that will cover the extra amount onto my mortgage (inc the interest) - unless I DO need to use the money for the building work, in which case it will take two years.

That extra lump on my mortgage? Is still debt (I cannot count my whole mortage as that kind of debt, or I'd go off my head, but I hope you understand what I mean) and It'll be in my signature, with the interest it'll accrue in the 18months added in to it and next to it will be the savings that will pay it off. I'm going to be a DFW until those two numbers match.

And I'll need to be disciplined about it, so I'll be here, bashing at those numbers with the best of you. I've pulled out £100-150 extra to debt repayment this month with your help and motivation and I'm going to keep on at it.

Until I get the money through my sig won't change, but I'll post a full update of my numbers and how they break down when I've got the cash sorted out in a few weeks time.
