Sony Vaio Memory upgrade!

My laptop is few years old and has only 256RAM memory..I am thinking to upgrade.Looking into the system description, it has 2 memory slots and you can get upto 512 each.

If I buy only 512RAM and fix it would that give me 768RAM?

OR

I should really buy either 256 to make it 512 // buy 2x512 to make it 1024?

I am bit confused...........please help:o

You can just oput one 512Mb stick in to take it up to 768Mb or even a 256Mb stick to take it to 512Mb. However it is possible both of the slots are already filled as it may have 2 x 128Mb of memory in it.

If you go to crucial and run their scanner it will anaylyse your system and tell you what you have already and what your options are.
It's my problem, it's my problem
If I feel the need to hide
And it's my problem if I have no friends
And feel I want to die
