HD Program Channel

On the start of torchwood last night it was said for those with HD tune to that channel to watch the program.

My question is where is it and seeing that there is not a continious signal how are we going to tune for that station.

Any Help??????

    I assume you're on Sky?
You need a Sky HD box. You'll find BBC HD on 143. If you're on Freeview, HD is only available in London AFAIK and you'll need a HD Freeview box.

I am on the South Coast with my HD ready Television. I was hoping for some demo of the pictures.

Surley my tele will pick it up without a box of any sort?

    Sadly you are mistaken.
Hi Definition television is only available via Satellite (Sky), or Cable (Virgin).
When the analog switch off is complete sufficient bandwidth will be released to allow the terrestrial (Freeview) service to carry HD programmes.
All these services need additional hardware, as niether the analog or digital tuners in you HD ready TV will decode HD signals.
HD ready refers to the resolution of the screen in pixels, and its connectivity for external HD sources such as HDMI.

As penrhyn said you need V+ or Sky HD to watch HD content at the moment. Alternatively this year the BBC and ITV are launching Freesat a sort of satellite version of Freeview which is planned to carry HD content without a subscription.

  • I have just got a HD television with a freeview build in to the tele. Is the freeview part no good for the future. I do not still understand why an box was required.

    Any help again

Thanks for all given so far.

There is no HD content broadcast on Freeview at the moment ( I don't know if there ever will be). Currently the ONLY sources for HD broadcasts are Sky HD and Virgin HD.

As I said earlier latre on this year Freesat is beign launched will carry HD broacasts at some point, I don't know if it will from the start. You will need to buy a box and a dish however there will be no subscription fee.

Even if they start broadcasting HD over Freeview I would have thought you would need a HD Freeview receiver in which case the one in your TV would not work.

This freesat looks good but bearing in mind that they are 1-2 months away it seems very strange that there has not either already been a big announcement or at least a lot more talk (and details) about it.

What you have bought, like the rest of us is an HD compatible TV, meaning it is capable of displaying, but not receiving HD TV.
The built in Freeview tuner is not capable of receiving HD broadcasts. The freeview tuner gives you more channels on the standard definition 625 line system, and widescreen format.
