no claim years from EU to UK ??

Hi,
I am driving now for 7 years, however, I can't seem to get any bonus in this country for car insurance as I am from Germany and dont 'have' any no claim years. I have paid the 'insurance entry fee' (the first years of stupidly high amounts) when I was 18 in Germany, therefore I don't really see the point in doing so again.
Up to this point I was insured as a named driver on my partners policy that cost us about £400 if it would be my policy I have to pay a minimum of £850 (cheapest quote i could find).
Basically, I don't know how to get my car insurance any cheaper without starting from scratch and 'earn' NCB years again!
(Can I get a form or something from Germany, or what kind of proof do insurances actually need?)
Any advice would be much appreciated!!
Thanks,
Jens

Of course you can take your no claims bonus to the UK!

I did this in June last year. I've had driven 23 years accident free in Germany. I checked when getting quotes and both Churchill and my eventual insurer
Admiral confirmed that they would accept a confirmation fron my german insurance company about my NCB. I was issued with a certificate to send in to Admiral. I had the reduced rate from the start and thought that was that. However, Admiral tried their luck (as they always try it on...it's in their nature!) and I received a letter a few weeks later from Admiral saying that as I hadn't been able to prove my NCB (lost certificate?) they would have to put me on the full tarif! I called them, gave them a mouthful and my NCB was reinstated.
Call your german insurer and ask for the certificate. It's free.

thanks, though the car wasn't mine and in my opinion in germany you insure the car rather than the person like in england...
basically, the policy was in my name the car in my dad's name... (i started with the common 140%)
I was driving this car for 4 years and paying for the policy, after that i was still a "named driver" on my dads policy for another 2-3 years (technically still am I think)
You think I can still get this certificate from my insurance?0 -
I would call the german insurance company who insured the driver/car throughout this period. Tell them the circumstances and explain that with a certificate confirming you are an accident free driver you can save money on your premium in England. But get confirmation from your new english insurer that it will accept the certificate they send you.
The certificate is in four or five languages. btw.
Shouldn't be a problem.

Hi again,
If you started on 140% what is your percentage now?
Still 140% because of being only a named driver?
