So the advice is "don't ask any of us lot"? Ok, fair enough. I think that's been repeated about 6 times now, so I have got the message. Why do you guys read these forums? Please don't answer that, I wouldn't like you to compromise yourselves.

Do any of the non-advisors here have any (helpful!) suggestions or links?

  • You did not ask for our opinions, just for a name of a good broker dweeby! How can we give our opinions when dont know your story??

Also, we dont give advice just opinions and that includes non brokers. How can you take advice based on what is written in a public forum? How do you know I am not a broker?

Lets start again, why dont you state your bit and maybe we can help?

Ok, I was buying a house and I needed some independant mortgage advice. It's all done and dusted now.

After 9 replies to my original thread (mostly by independant mortgage advisors!), I finally got a personal message from one of you. However, whilst you were all extolling the virtues of how and why you couldn't suggest an independant advisor, I called L&C. The best deal that they could come up with was 5 years at 5.68% (Alliance and Leicester I think) and it took the guy ~8 hours to find this.

In the meantime after investigating myself (and I'm certainly no expert), I have signed up with First Direct at 4.99% for the same 5 years. This product is apparently not available to mortgage brokers.

As someone wrote in an earlier reply to my post "just the sort of client I'd rather not deal with", which on reflection presumably means "not an easy buck so we can't be bothered".

There's a lesson to be learned here somewhere...

Anyway, thanks for not helping, it would appear that I'll be considerably better off than if you had helped.

Serioulsy, most of my clients come to me as they have been told about me and how they liked my service! Most of which are never an easy buck! No such thing as an easy buck, free lunch or whatever you like to call it.

Really your attitude stinks, we help people on here for free giving up our time and trying to show that there are some good brokers out there! We have to go by the rules, read them and you will see. You can PM us but we must not push our services or PM another member. I hope whoever PM'd you is reading this or they PM'd you to call a name not suitable for the main forum!

No, its your attidude that stinks.

Or does my attitude stink because as a total novice I'm able to find a better deal than a professional "whole of market" broker?

Why would one of your fellow mortgage advisors want to call me a name?
Is that the way you professionals behave?
Why would he be breaking any rules pm'ing me when that's what I specifically requested?
How could you be considered to be "pushing your services" when I specifically requested a pm?

    Anyway, goodbye and good luck.

What interest? show me a link to a post where someone was taking an interest.

And if they were genuinely bothered about "the rules", why bother to post at all, especially after I suggested "Do any of the non-advisors here have any (helpful!) suggestions or links?"
