Spending in France

I am going to France in February - CC add a high fee for using the card abroad but changing money even in the bank at tourist rates is also expensive - no commission just means an even poorer rate. Are there any CC's with no commission on European spending?

Just to continue with Clapton's good advice:-

1) Purchase enough Euros from your local Post Office to last until you can get to a cash machine in France. Don't carry more cash than is covered by your travel insurance.

2) Use your credit card (Nationwide/P.O./Saga) for purchases eg. fuel, hotel & restaurant bills. No foreign currency loading on the above cards.

3) Use your debit card (Nationwide) for cash machine withdrawals, no foreign currency loading or cash withdrawal fee by Nationwide. Apparently some French banks may make a charge for withdrawing cash but I have never been charged.
