6000 miles are 'worth' about £90 if you buy them from AA.com

You could ask if they'd give you a 'Travel voucher' to use on a subsequent AA flight.
(If you intend to fly AA again).

    Ask the question on Flyertalk

If the miles are of no use to you then PM me with your best offer ;)
  • If they are going to be useful for you, then I'd be tempted to take them and run --- but, if your only a touch away from enough miles for a free flight, then maybe hold out for a few more.

Bit IIUC, AA aren't obliged to you any free miles anyway.

I wouldn't expect any more than that. If you already have some miles (presumably you do have Aadvantage or they wouldn't have offered you miles in the first place) check out if the miles will roll you up to an award (or miles and cash award) and decide accordingly.
If it leaves you *just* short of an award it might be worth replying asking them to add another 1k so they will be of use to you but I wouldn't hold my breath personally. I'd just accept the miles and chalk it up to one of those things-it's not an unusual occurance when flying........with any airline.
