Are you still receiving SSP? If not, you need to claim IB. What income do you have at present?

Your husband is unlikely to receive IB, as he will not have paid sufficient NI Contributions. He is also unlikely to receive IS, due to your income.

Do you have any kind of payment protection insurance?

    Do you have children?
    Gone ... or have I?
  • Go to your local cab asap and they will give you a quick benefits check which will let you know what you can claim and how much.

ref to your DLA the cab will help you dispute it but be quick you do not have long to do this. The CAB are experts at filling out these forms. Your husband may be able to claim for DLA if his mobility has been hampered.

Mortgage- do you have payment protection on it. Maybe you can take holidays from payments (check your terms). Make sure you continue to pay your mortgage over any unsecured loans/credit card.

When you go to cab, make sure you take paper work with you, it does help us advisers to get the full picture and to be able to give you accurate advice. You could be referred to see a debt adviser and they will help you negotiate with your creditors. But I must stress keep paying your mortgage!

    Hi,

if your hubby has been paying some NI contribution whilst he was self-employed, he should put in a claim for Incapacity Benefit for himself, its not means tested, so other income & savings (possibly up to a certain amount I think) would'nt affect his claim. He can only ring & try.

    Good Luck
