  • Yes, we did replace the immersion, thanks for reminding me because I haven't checked that it works yet. He wasn't very specific about the 'clogged up' business, but when pressed he said it was 'sludge'. We had to call him back within half an hour of leaving because the cylinder was leaking, but he came back and sorted it out. We also had a flood in the kitchen because he didn't close the radiator drain properly when he refilled the system, but we were able to deal with that. I regret allowing him to convince me that we needed a larger tank and believing him when he said it would fit - it didn't. None of my airing cupboard shelves fit now and the way the pipes have been fitted will make it very hard to fit new shelves. I know it is a small thing to moan about, but space is at a premium as it is only an average size house. Anyway, I have hot water and I am very grateful for that.

Do you mean the new tank is taller? In that case what does the pipe that comes out of the top of the cylinder do? Has he repiped the whole section or does it now come out of the cylinder turn towards the back then drop down a bit to link into the original pipe?
Mine needed a new fan so that must be whats wrong with yours:D

It is quite a bit taller, I think the photos show it better than I could explain. The pipe at the back next to the AAV is not against the wall it is going up through the middle of the cupboard space.

Please tell me that the plug on a lead on the top of the cylinder is for the CH electrics and isn't for the immersion. It looks like it could be on the picture.

Wait til the cylinder needs draining then!! :rotfl:

Why didn't he suggest moving the filling loop at the same time and fitting a gauge, must like replacing prvs!

And as for leaving the lead on the cwm, its his job to advise the client.

Did he have room on his horse for the scrap, (cylinder is worth about £30 nowadays)?

  • It's for the immersion, that is exactly how he left it! If there is something wrong please tell me so that I can try to put right quickly. I know £500 doesn't sound much to most people, but it is to me and if this is not done properly I can't afford to pay more to get someone else to put it right. He is corgi registered.
  • I know I must sound really thick, but I don't know anything about plumbing or boilers and I didn't understand the last two or three posts. Please could you explain what the problems are and what I could do about them. It must sound pathetic, but I didn't have to deal with this sort of thing until three or for years ago and each time I have had work done it always seems to turn out wrong.

The cable should be hard wired into a fused switch, for 1, lack of isolation valves, easy of use for householder etc.
