Stuck in a rut with my Halifax card ..

Hello all - first time poster here.
Just a quick question about my Halifax card.
I took the card out a while back and it has a limit of £700. I stopped paying it due to circumstances beyond my control and now the balance is about £1400. I want to pay it off but now the monthly payments ar massive to even make a dent in the balance.
When I call Halifax they are jus very snooty and not much help (rightly so I suppose as it is my fault
) but all I want to do it try to clear it.
I'm not a home owner and cannot get credit elsewhere - so cannot switch the balance I don't think.
I was thinking of writing to Halifax and asking them if they could freeze the interest until I get back under my limit, as I recently became unemployed.
Anyone have any advice about this? I realise it's a relatively small balance but I don't have any friends or family that could lend me the money unfortunately!
Thanks for reading.

Hi,
How long have you not made a payment to the account for?
When you call who do you speak to (customer services or the arrears) and what do you ask?
You may want to consider contacting the CCCS (consumer credit counciling service) and getting advice, or head over to the debt free wannabe board and ask for advice.
Hope you get it all sorted soon!
