I had a yoghurt maker many years ago which I think was a Salton. I used a small pot of plain yoghurt and either made up dried milk [Marvel] or UHT milk which I warmed and mixed with the yoghurt. I then left it overnight, once cooled down store in the fridge. You can use one these as a starter for the next batch. Not sure of the milk quantity as it depends how many pots [5 or 6]
    Hope this helps.

    Hi,

Thanks for reply. When trying to find this post again to see if I had a reply, I found that the same topic had been discussed in 2005, so I know have the answer.

    Thanks

Thanks ted for the tip about warming the UHT milk! I bought the bulk yog maker from Lakeland and followed their instructions to the letter but it is always like drinking yog; tastes ok but thin. I like goat's yog so dont have much choice about the starter. Any other tips to get thicker yog would be appreciated.

I hope somebody can help me, I've lost the Salton measuring spoon and need to know the measurement so I can make some yogurt, I'm guessing it's a tablespoon but I don't want to start it and waste the ingredients.

It's the model with the glass pots if that makes a difference.

    Thank you in advance.

I've been making my own yogurt using an Easiyo, but it has utterly and completely not been working for weeks and weeks now. :( As I've been following the same exact method for making it (UHT, starter, milk powder, boiling water, 12 hours) I'm thinking that maybe it is the yogurt starter? Has anyone else found that their "live" yogurt from the store is not doing the job for making more live yogurt? It seems to work OK when I use live culture tablets?
