Well tomorrow I am going to make some yogurt. Any last minute tips? And can I put fruit in it beforehand or so I add the fruit at the end?

No,don't put the fruit in first,it won't yog.Don't add anything to the milk.

My yog maker is from Lakeland and makes 1 litre at a time.A good tip is to add about 1/2 a cup(up to the 4 fl oz mark on a measuring jug)of skimmed milk powder(value)to the live yog,mix it well and gradually whisk in the milk. This makes the yog richer and thicker.

I don't know if this has already been mentioned, but if you use UHT loglife milk you don't have to heat it up first and wait for it to cool to the right temp.

I tend to start my yog off at bedtime and leave it overnight, its just right in the morning.

Hope I'm not repeating what's already been said.

Btw,when you add your fruit, fold gently, rather than beat it in if you want to retain the thick texture of the yog.

    HTH :)

For kids who don't like "bits" in their yogurt you could use milk shake to flavour it. If you use the powdered milk shake then it doesn't make it too watery. Although if you want to use the liquid, then the yogurt could be drunk like Yop.

Try maple syrup or honey. Strawberry Crunch breakfast cereal from Lidl's with yogurt is delicious.
  • I have been making yogurt for about 6 months now, and use the EasiYo yogurt maker from Lakeland (costs about £20 and is not electric). I use UHT full cream milk with a bit of milk powder and this makes a nice thick creamy yogurt. The starter I think DOES affect the taste. Use a mild natural yogurt for this. But once you have made the first batch, you shouldn't ever need to buy any more; just put a little bit aside each time to start the next lot off.

Don't buy the EasiYo mixes though as they are really expensive, although their flavourings are nice. I find mixing it with a bit of pureed fruit and sugar or honey is best.

OK, I've just put started the yogurt maker off by following the instructions for the Salton maker. I've switched it on and left it. Is something supposed to happen now? Is it supposed to heat up or anything?

You just leave it now to, hopefully, do it's work. It will heat up but it's just a gentle heat so you won't really feel it, the jars will be warm when you lift them out at the end.

Yogurt doesn't like to be disturbed when it's yogging so don't lift the jars out or knock them if you can help it ;) good luck :)

    Hi all,

I was wondering if anyone might have the instructions for salton yogurt maker 1105? I bought it from a charity shop and it didn't come with any paperwork. I have checked the two instructions websites that I have got from this site, but no joy.

    Thanks in advance
