Do you think my laptop power adapter is faulty

A while ago I replaced the original faulty power adapter with a universal one purchased from Ebay.
Recently, my laptop keeps switching between battery and AC power. The symptoms are just like when the adapter plugs falls out the socket, i.e. It bleeps and the screen dims, just like switching to battery mode. The plug is secure and the socket is firm, so unlessit is something inside the laptop, I can only suspect the adapter.
Do you think it is advisable to purchase another ?

Look carefully at the plug that goes into the laptop, and also at the laptop socket, it could well be that the centre pin in the laptop socket is smaller than the hole in the plug, the plug will fit firmly but the pin may only just be touching the inside of the socket, and small movements may make it disconnect giving you the symptoms you describe. Many so called universal power supplies do not have all the possible range of adapters used.
The other thing it could be is that constantly wrapping and unwrapping the cable has broken an internal wire in the lead and then can be interrmittant.
There is also the possibility that constant plugging/unplugging the laptop connection has broken the solder that connects the socket to the motherboard giving intermittant connection.
You need to look at all these items and try and decide which is most likely to be the problem.0
