lost internet connection through router

Could someone please tell me how to go about getting the internet back on through the router. The router is all connected up but we cannot get internet to work on our lap top, this has only happened since our computer had to be reset back to the origional settings as it was when we first bought it due to a problem that we had. The internet is working fine on the main computer.
Thanks

assuming its a wireless router, does the lappy actually see the router?
(the main puter settings should have nothing to do with it).

what is the make/model of the router?
    what OS are you using?
    Get some gorm.
