    Hi TigerAngel

Shocked to read that your parents still expect you to pay for your "keep", even when you have no income coming in.
<virtual hugs coming to you> and hope things work out for you.
In their defence, they don't earn very much and we live in an area where the water rates and council tax are horribly high (Devon). Plus they're paying the mortgage. I can't expect them to give me charity - I am an adult after all, as much as I wish it was otherwise!

I had Glandular Fever when I was about 14yrs old, and after that they diagnosed me with Chronic Fatique Syndrome. At the time I thought I was just a lazy teenager, and maybe I was.. but as I have got older I have since suffered with this a bit.. although not as badly as you sound x I struggle more with my motivation and I especially struggle in the early mornings and middle of the afternoon.. :o

Like I say, not sure if this is chronic fatigue still (me that is), or just a lack of motivation. I am too shy to mention it because I think people just think it's another word for being lazy... :rotfl: if only they knew..

Hope you come to the right decision for you. Part of me feels like saying the more you sit at home the more tired it makes you, but I don't know the level of your difficulties, all I know is when I'm at home it gets even harder as I get depressed and even less motivated.

    Good Luck x

Do you get paid for a set period if you are off sick? if so and it is 3 months full pay 3 months half pay, then I would just accept that Ineeded the time off and get a sick note. At the end of the term your emplyer will have a responsibiity to "phase" you back into work. This may mean shorter days or a shorter week. I would try this route before handing in my notice, and during this period keep my eyes open for another job.
  • Hi

I would try the route of reducing your hours or number of days first. I have had lots of sick days since the summer and was referred to the Well work or occupational health dept We worked out that I needed a different office with radiators not blow air heater and also that would benefit from continuing the phased return. I am now in the middle of a 3 month period of a four day week.

It has helped me as I can rest on the Friday and still feel like I have had a weekend. Unfortunately I am going to have to go back full time in March as I am a single parent and the loss of income is too much.

I would try to talk to your boss and see if they have an onccupational health dept.

  • Thanks for all the advice everyone - it's really helpful reading the perspective of someone who's actually been through a similar situation. I'm not going to rush into anything, but will definitely try to negotiate a change in working hours, hopefully armed with a note from my GP or consultant. If company management refuse, then I guess the next choice has been made for me.

Not sure they can refuse if you have medical evidence to back up your condition. They would be leaving themselves open to a claim of constructive dismissal.
  • Hi, I have a severe form of rheumatoid arthritis and fatigue is a major side effect. When I was working full time I had literally no quality of life, I would arrive home from work and pass out, the weekends were also spent completely sleeping, I barely saw my family.

It got so bad I couldn't work so at first I reduced my hours, this helped a lot as it meant I could rest while my husband was still at work and then be there for him when he came home. Unfortunately things took a turn for the worse last year and I have now been signed off and told by my GP to not work at all.

If you can manage it I would definitely recommend part time rather than quitting completely.
