Hi everyone
I'm hoping some-one can give me some advice. I listed a mobile phone on ebay 2 weeks ago and the winning bidder was from Poland. On the 12th Jan I posted the phone at my local post office by international signed for and also took out extra insurance and thought nothing else of it. Today I have had an email from paypal to say that the buyer has opened a 'Item Not Received Dispute'. I have tried to track the item online using the ref no but it was saying that the info was unavailbale only to call up rpyal mail and be told that they have no record of my item as it hasn't been scanned and that its probably lost or is in a post bag soemwehere and may or may ot turn up.
What do I do now? My paypal balance is also now minus the money he paid..will this be coming back out of my bank account?
I have replied back to the buyer with the tracking number and stating that it was posted on the 12th Jan and perhaps he could wait a few more days.
I called up payapl but they were useless and I couldn't understand the lady on the phone and she couldn't understand me.
Help would be appreciated!
Thanks

i presume you have a tracking number and on that slip the address of where it is destined to go, if you have you should be able to seek compo through royal mail. it sounds like your item has been lost between the post office and the local sorting office where it would have been scanned to log the progress of the tracking.
contact royal mail with the info you have tracking number etc. they should be able to help you out.All the big powers they've silenced me. So much for free speech and choice on this fundamental human right, and outing the liars.0 -
Thanks for the reply. I called royal mail today who said the same and that they'd send me a componsation claim form in the post..but that it can take 3-4 months for the compensation to reach me and for them to investigate!
In the meantime am I expected to refund the buyer the £110 odd?0 -
well if i was the buyer i would certainly want my money back. you posted on the 12th jan, the item should have been logged by now at the sorting office, and its clearly not. It does not look like it will. I would think in this case it has been stolen.
I think you are going to have to give a refund to be honest.
getting back to the phone, have you any info on it such as serial number, you can get the phone blocked by the phone company so its worthless to anyone who as got it.All the big powers they've silenced me. So much for free speech and choice on this fundamental human right, and outing the liars.0 -
Luckily I wrote down all of the phone details..imei, serial numbers etc so have just called my provider up to get them it blacklisted so it will no longer work if someone has in fact stolen it. How long would you advise waiting before refunding the money? Also, I'm a little worried as looking on royal mails website it says that compensation is only up to the value of £34 and the phone's worth £110! I did take out extra insurance as I told the lady at the time of posting its vale and that it was a mobile phone but again the royal mail states website states that comp for posting phones s up to £34 only! Is it likely I'll receive the full amount back?0

You are obliged to refund. I would sooner rather than later.
If you paid for extra insurance, then do you have to tell them it was a mobile phone, why not an electrical item?
By the way, what has happened to you is exactly why i never get involved in international sales....0 -
Was just about to say the maximum claim for a mobile phone sent International Signed For is £34.
I think you need to complain to the Post Office as you have definitely been missold the product! Hope you get your money back.0 -
I thought of that but i have to send proof of the item from ebay..eg a transaction receipt that says its a mobile phone. surely though if they extra insurance wouldn't cover a mobile hone they shouldn't have allowed me to pay an extra £4 off for it?!
I 6think my days off selling off my unwanted gifts on ebay are over. It far too much hassel. I sold a £6 pair of flip flops and posted them at the weekend.now the buyer for those is saying they haven't received them either..bloody postal service!!0 -
grrr!!!! If I only get £34 back from them I will be £76 out of pocket!!! First thing in the morning then I'm ringing up to complain.0

You should be entitled to the £34 compo plus the return of the £4.
Lesson learned but at least you will now be wiser and be able to give good advice to people wishing to post abroad. Good Luck.0
